The Q1 2024 Issue of A Climate of Change is Now Available

Based on feedback from our members and the response to our Q4 survey, we will continue to track legislative, regulatory and market developments stemming from climate-related risk in 2024 via our quarterly newsletter, A Climate of Change. This quarter, we dig into the progression of the INSURE Act through Congress, inquiries into carriers across states most affected by severe weather events, and ESG trends across our industry.

Get Up to Speed in Under Two Minutes with the Q4 P/C Market Survey Video Summary

The Council’s recently released quarterly P/C Market Survey shows that almost all lines of business recorded smaller premium increases in Q4 2023 than in the previous quarter. The numbers revealed that the same challenging factors from previous quarters were still at play: issues with reinsurance affordability and availability, climate change-driven natural catastrophe losses, and inflation.

Announcing the Winners of the 2024 International Broker Challenge

The Council recently held its annual International Broker Challenge, powered by CNA Insurance, in Prague. Jonathan Höh and Irma Ibrahimpasic-Hadzic with GrEco International Holdings, and Francelina Santos and Lívia Bisoni with MDS Group, emerged as winners of the competition with a perfect score, and set 4 world records.

Registration is open for ftwo of The Council’s eight Spring Working Groups. As a reminder, there will no longer be a registration fee for your Spring Working Group meetings.

The Claims & Risk Management Working Group will be held April 23-24, also in Washington D.C. The event will feature a presentation from Lucy Straker at Beazley who will discuss armed assailants and crisis management.

February 2024 Legal Counsel Working Group and CEBE Meeting Recaps

The Legal Counsel Working Group and the Council of Employee Benefits Executives (CEBE) both held meetings during the 2024 Legislative Summit. The groups received political and legislative updates, discussed National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) and continued ongoing discussions on a variety of topics including PBM transparency.

Registration & Housing Deadline Approaching for the 2024 Employee Benefits Leadership Forum

The registration and housing deadline for The Council’s annual Employee Benefits Leadership Forum, (May 28-31 in Colorado Springs, CO) is Friday, March 22. This leadership forum allows attendees to conduct key strategic market meetings, build relationships and collaborate on effective ways to support employers (and their employees) as the healthcare landscape continues to transform.
