American Express has just informed card holders that their information may have been compromised due to a security breach at a third party service provider. Stefanie Ash, the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) at American Express, sent out a notice to customers filed with the Office of the Attorney General in California about the incident. According to Ash, account numbers, names, expiration dates and more could have been accessed by an unsanctioned individual or group. Ash also emphasized that systems owned and controlled by Amex were not affected by the incident, but they are informing their members as a precautionary measure. American Express expressed it was watching accounts for unusual activity and fraud, and urged card holders to do the same.
