On June 28, 2018, California Governor Jerry Brown signed CA AB-375, the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 into law. The CCPA is widely regarded as the nation’s most aggressive data privacy law to date, and as its name suggests it is a privacy law; it does not focus on data security or data breach notification requirements. The CCPA focuses on business information collection practices and a consumer’s right to find out about that data collection.
