Nationwide’s second annual Small Business Indicator, a national survey conducted across more than 500 small business owners, revealed that at least 78 percent of small business owners don’t have a cyber-attack response plan. In light of the cyber-attack against Dyn, Inc., last Friday, and with National Cybersecurity Awareness month drawing to a close, agents should aim to spread awareness to the 45 percent of small business owners who think they will not be targeted and have no response plan in place.

You could begin by considering the five misconceptions that many may have about cyber risk:

  • A small-sized business isn’t appealing to hackers
  • The cloud is completely safe
  • Cyber-attack is just like any computer problem
  • If it happens, I can handle it
