The Economist recently wrote this article about how economist, politicians and insurance insiders drum up the amount of money lost every year to cybercrime, and the findings are pretty discouraging.

Whether it is because there are poor disclosure laws, cover-ups or inadequate survey collection techniques, the authors believe that we really have no clue how much money is lost globally as a result of illegal cyber activity. However, the authors argue, “if there were more disclosure, and thus more information on the amount, types and costs of cyber-crime, companies would know better how to spend their information-security budgets. It would also be easier to work out what sort of insurance cover to buy.”
