FTC’s chief technologist, Ashkan Soltani, recently sat down with PoliticoPro to talk about data security.

One of his main goals is “to help companies be mindful [of data security]. Some companies are really good at it — the larger companies that suffer a brand harm in a breach — their business is to be custodians of data. But a lot of other companies that are small, or older companies that are unfamiliar with best practices throw their stuff online, and may not put in place the right processes. For them, security is a cost center. It’s not as huge a priority as innovation and commerce.”
