Non-profit health organization, Banner Health, announced it recently fell victim to a cybersecurity attack affecting as many as 3.7 million patients, members, providers and food and beverage outlet customers between June 23 and July 7. The hackers were able to gain unauthorized access to Banner Health through computer systems associated with processing payment card data from food and beverage purchases at several Banner Health locations. “Affected patients may have had names, dates of birth, addresses, physicians’ names, dates of service, clinical information and possibly health insurance information accessed. If Social Security numbers were provided, then those may also have been exposed,” according to a recent HealthITSecurity article. The Phoenix-based health organization operates in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming.
