According to National Grid Plc CEO Steve Holliday, the UK electrical grid provider, which also operates power networks in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York, is continuously fending off “huge amounts” of cyber attacks but only a handful have penetrated their systems.
While speaking at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance conference in London, Holliday noted that many of the attacks are originating from the Middle East and China. Holliday said that, “the number of penetrations that have gotten into our system in some way — and then we’ve found them and gotten rid of them — you can count those on one hand. But they’re still there.” Additionally, he noted how National Grid is partnering with the British and U.S. government to identify and fend off attacks.
