Finance company Dow Jones & Co. became the most recent victim of a cyber-breach over this past summer. The hack places the large finance firm on the growing list of American companies targeted of by cyber criminals. Hilton Hotels, Trump Hotels, Experian, Scottrade, and Ashley Madison have also fallen victim to some form of cybercrime within the past year.
On October 9th, CEO William Lewis issued a letter to customers notifying them of the hack. Although no “direct evidence” has revealed that the breach resulted in stolen and/or abused access to unauthorized information, it was revealed that the breach went undiscovered for 3 years, from August 2012 till July 2015. Officials report that up to 3,500 individuals could have potentially been exposed while the breach occurred.
