Cheap hotel WiFi is great. Free hotel WiFi is better. But these systems may not be as secure as you think. A recent survey has found that as many as 38% of all known security breaches happen on hotel networks.

Norton, a Symantec company, recommends seven precautionary steps to minimize the likelihood that your data will be compromised while using a hotels WiFi system: Set up good defenses, be careful to connect to the correct network, avoid file-sharing, disconnect when not in use, avoid financial transactions, use a VPN, and change passwords frequently.
