On November 30, the United States House of Representatives passed the Strengthening State and Local Cyber Crime Fighting Act which authorizes the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to establish a National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI). Operated by the U.S. Secret Service, state and local law enforcements, along with prosecutors and judges, will be trained to investigate cyber threats and mobile devices. While the NCFI was created in 2008, this bill will formally authorize the institute. The bill is currently waiting to be passed by the Senate.
