The NAIC has issued 12 principles that will ‘”serve as the foundation” for any insurance regulation aimed at protecting sensitive customer information kept by insurers and producers.”‘

The principles call for flexibility in rules or guidance issued by regulators, collaboration with insurers insurance producers and the federal government to “achieve a consistent, coordinated approach.” However, the NAIC does want to institute minimum standards for insurers and producers regardless of size.
