While speaking at the G7 summit in Germany, President Obama warned that cyberattacks similar to the one that recently struck OPM will only become more common.
“We have known for a long time that there are significant vulnerabilities and that these vulnerabilities are going to accelerate as time goes by, both in systems within government and within the private sector,” the President said during the news conference. He added that one of the main problems facing the federal government right now is the fact that “we’ve got very old systems.”
The President did not point any fingers at who the government believes was behind the attack but he took the time to urge Congress to approve cybersecurity legislation, saying, “both state and non-state actors are sending everything they’ve got into trying to breach these systems…This problem is not going to go away. It’s going to accelerate.”
