On Friday President Obama signed an executive order on cyberthreat information sharing, which according to PoliticoPro, calls for a network of new cyber information sharing and analysis organizations and grants the Homeland Security Department authority to share some classified intelligence with them — will be followed up with information-sharing legislation.
The hope is that legislation will help to incentivize information sharing better than the executive order can because it will offer “liability protection to companies that share information about attempted and successful hacks.” There are a number of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle in the House and Senate that are currently working on information-sharing legislation, however similar legislation failed to pass last congress. The President’s executive order can be found here.
