A recent email-based phishing scam has compromised personal information of more than 5,000 employees at St. Joseph’s Healthcare System based in Patterson, N.J. According to a statement from Kenneth Morris, vice president for external affairs of St. Joseph’s, the hospital became aware of the breach late Friday. Names, Social Security numbers and tax information were all possibly compromised, but the breach reportedly did not include employee or patient medical information.
“The unintentional disclosure of data was exclusive to our employees,” said Morris. “St. Joseph’s is aggressively working with outside authorities to assist our employees in dealing with this incident.” St. Joseph’s Healthcare System also plans to provide free credit monitoring for all employees who may have been affected.
