A report suggests that fortunately, governors and state officials are placing more emphasis on cybersecurity threats. The recent new National Association of State Chief Information Officers-Deloitte study, State Governments at risk: Turning strategy and awareness into progress, found that more than 90 percent of state officials feel cybersecurity is both important to their state and a more frequent discussion topic, at recent executive leadership meetings. Almost a third of CISOs said to provide governors reports on cybersecurity, up from 17 percent two years ago. On the other hand, many CISOs explain there is a “confidence gap” with how well state officials believe cyber threats are handled. This demonstrates the need for a new approach with how IT professionals and government officials work together when combating cybercriminals.
