Two weeks ago the Democratic National Committee announced that their server had been breached by Russian hacking groups. The hackers stole information that the Clinton campaign could use to combat Donald Trump in the presidential election. On Sunday, the cybersecurity firm Secure Works Corp. concluded that one of the hacking groups, “Fancy Bear” also targeted Hillary Clinton’s emails. In addition, the email accounts of U.S. based military spouses, political activists and many journalists that wrote critically of Russia were accessed.

The range of targets shows that this group “poses a broad threat to individuals and groups associated with U.S. politics,” as written in the SecureWorks report. The Kremlin continues to deny any involvement in the attack. The question remains, who would want this information, and what are they planning on doing with it?
