According to USA Today, hackers successfully breached the Department of Energy 159 times between 2010 and 2014.
By reviewing federal records and incident reports, USA Today uncovered what amounts to a “consistent barrage of attempts to breach the security of critical information systems that contain sensitive data about the nation’s power grid, nuclear weapons stockpile and energy labs.”
As one Forbes columnist noted, “utilities engaged in hand-to-hand cyber combat to keep the lights on.”
