A recent report claimed that the much beloved Starbucks app was hacked, a report strongly denied by the coffee company, has raised a larger issue about our dependency on mobile apps, and their vulnerabilities to cyber attacks.
Earlier this year, a vendor reported that “over 5 billion apps are vulnerable to being hacked.” Of the 7 million IOS and android mobile apps examined, the vendor found that 96% of malicious software targeted Google’s android operating system. Due to how much we rely on our phones and the mobile apps that operate, we open ourselves up to further cyber attacks that can target far more then our daily coffee orders.
